Letter from Dean Brater
Dear Colleague:
The Indiana University School of Medicine is acknowledged as one of the world’s finest educational, research and health care institutions. Essential to the school’s mission and reputation is the trust developed as a result of the efforts of the teachers, researchers, clinicians, staff and others who serve the school and its mission. The School of Medicine is committed to assuring that all its employees, faculty and staff, conduct their daily affairs with honesty, integrity and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The IU School of Medicine desires to reaffirm and accentuate its commitment to transact the School of Medicine’s business in compliance with all laws and regulations including those applicable to professional billing practices and the administration of medical research. The Indiana University School of Medicine, through its Compliance Committee, has developed a Compliance Program to further this overall objective.
Linked below is a copy of the School of Medicine’s Compliance Plan and the School’s Code of Conduct. Please take a moment to review these documents. In particular, as you review the code of Conduct, think about how it applies to you and your position. Recognize your responsibility in helping ensure the mission and values of the School of Medicine.
You will also be introduced to the Compliance Notification Line, a toll-free number you can use to report your compliance concerns anonymously. As you go about your daily work you may become aware of compliance concerns. You can report these concerns to a variety of individuals. If you are not comfortable reporting you concerns directly to someone, consider using the Compliance Notification Line. You will not be punished for reporting your good faith compliance concerns.
We are committed to assuring that the actions of all employees of the Indiana University School of Medicine reflect the values we share. Allow your own internal sense of honesty, fairness and integrity to act as your guide. If you are not sure of the appropriate action, ask. Ask a colleague, your supervisor, the compliance officer or contact the Compliance Notification Line at 1-877-526-6759.
If each of us recognizes our responsibility to act in the best interest of the school, our patients, our colleagues and the community we serve, the Indiana University School of Medicine will continue to hold a position as one of the world’s finest academic medical centers.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
D. Craig Brater, M.D.
