Training Requirements and Access

Outlined in the IU School of Medicine Compliance Plan, under Education and Training, the following policy states:

"Individuals involved in the coding and billing aspects of each department, including but not limited to each faculty member or health care provider who generates any billable services will be required to attend one hour of compliance training annually beginning January 1, 2000. The one hour of training must be completed during each academic year. An academic year for the purposes of this provision shall mean July 1st to June 30th. This training may include training by the Compliance Office, training by the department, training by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, training done by Wishard Hospital's Compliance Office, training done by Clarian Health Partners Compliance Office or any other training which addresses issues of compliance. If the training is not conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine Compliance Office the training program must be reviewed and approved by the School of Medicine's Compliance Office, preferably prior to attending, for credit to be given."

Several options in obtaining this mandated training are available to the faculty. Those options include the following:

Compliance Training Sessions - We do not currently have any general sessions scheduled

Department/Physician Requested Training - Department Compliance Officers, Compliance Liaisons, and faculty can request from the Compliance Training Specialist a session customized to the department or physicians request.
